NASHVILLE - Victor Gomez and Victor Ramos each ripped two base hits and knocked in a run, but a pair of Lipscomb homers pushed the Bison past the Marshall University baseball team, 7-3, on Sunday afternoon at Dugan Field.
Marshall falls to 3-3 on the season and dropped two-of-three in the series against Lipscomb (5-3).
On the mound, Arik Sikula (0-2) suffered the loss. He worked 4.2 innings, giving up six runs (five earned) on five hits with four punch outs.
Lipscomb's starter, Dannie Strable, improved to 2-0 on the young season, working the first seven frames, allowing seven hits and three earned runs.
The Herd got things off on the right track, loading the bases with one down in the top of the first against Strable. James Lavinskas plated Kenny Socorro on a fielder's choice, but unfortunately that was all the offense could produce in the inning.
The Bison evened the score in the bottom of the first thanks to a Richie Goodenow solo homer to right. In the second, Ricky Coleman connected for a two-run homer to highlight a three-run frame, owning a 4-1 advantage after two.
Marshall sliced the deficit to two runs on a V.Gomez sac fly in the fifth. However, the Bison answered right back pushing across two runs in the bottom half on RBI singles from Bennet Smith and Kyle Henry.
In the sixth, Ramos scorched a two-out RBI single that sent Steven Ross home, making the score 6-3. For the second-straight inning, Lipscomb answered yet again when M.L. Williams raced home on a wild pitch by Hunter May.
The Herd put some pressure on the Bison bullpen in the top of the ninth, but it was to no avail as Josh Cotham recorded the final two outs to earn the save.
Both squads had opportunities to score even more runs, as Marshall stranded 11 base runners and Lipscomb left nine on base.
