ATHENS, Ohio - Marshall split a twinbill with Ohio on Sunday afternoon, taking game one 7-3, before dropping the second contest, 5-1 at Wren Stadium in nonconference baseball action.



With the split, MU now sits at 6-9 overall, while Ohio owns a 7-8 record on the season.



Next up for the Herd is a midweek game against Cleveland State on Tuesday at Epling Stadium in Beckley, W.Va.



Game 1: MARSHALL 7, OHIO 3



Arik Sikula fired seven shutout innings along with Victor Gomez and Rhett Stafford each launching homers to help Marshall defeat Ohio in game one of the doubleheader, 7-3.



Sikula (1-3) posted his second quality start of the week, as the senior allowed just two singles and struck out a career-high 10 to earn his first victory of the season. Of the two hits allowed, only one reached the outfield as he retired seven batters on the ground and four through the air. His seven frames tossed tied a career-high.



V.Gomez finished 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored, while Victor Ramos roped a pair of hits and knocked in two.



Marshall scored multiple runs in the third, fifth and seventh frames for its total of seven on the day.



In the third, V.Gomez connected for his first bomb of the year, a two-run shot to right, to break the scoreless tie. It marked the 47th homer of Gomez's career.



R.Stafford counted for the three-run fifth inning, when he clocked a three-run deep fly to right field. James Lavinskas got the rally starting by drawing a walk prior to Thor Meeks roping a double into the leftfield corner. On a full count, Stafford unleashed for his first dinger of the year.



MU tacked on two runs in the seventh when Victor Ramos lined a two-out, two-run double to round out the Herd's scoring.



Ohio threatened by scoring three times in the bottom of the eighth, but Kyle Blank pitched a scoreless ninth to secure the victory.



Game 2: OHIO 5, MARSHALL 1
Marshall crossed home seven-or-more times in the first three games of the series, but the Herd ran into the right arm Jason Moulton who chucked a complete game, surrendering just one run in the ninth to give the Bobcats the 5-1 win.



Moulton (1-1) scattered seven hits and struck out three with now walks to earn the win on the OU mound.



On the bump for MU, Austin Pratt (0-1) suffered the loss tossing the first four innings giving up one unearned run with five punch outs.



Isaac Ballou, Thor Meeks and Nathan Gomez each ripped a pair of hits to lead the offense.
