BECKLEY, W.Va. - St. Bonaventure's Eddie Gray fired eight shut-out innings as the Bonnies bested the Marshall University baseball team, 9-2 on Sunday afternoon at Epling Stadium.
Marshall dropped to 8-11, while the Bonnies improved to 6-8 on the year.
The Herd captured the first two games of the series but could not muster up the offense that tallied 32 runs over Friday and Saturday night.
Gray (2-0) kept the MU bats at bay, scattering four hits and walking four while fanning six and not allowing a run to cross home.
Rhett Stafford broke up the string of zeros on the scoreboard when he tattooed a two-run bomb to left, rounding out the day's scoring.
In the sixth, SBU crossed home four times off only two hits as Marshall was forced to use four pitchers in the frame.
Gray Stafford and James Lavinskas each roped two hits apiece in the loss.
MU starter Aaron Blair (0-1) was saddled with the loss, working two innings, allowing one earned run on two hits with two strikeouts.
NEXT UP: Marshall heads to Cleveland State on Tuesday. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.
