Box Score

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Six relief pitchers kept the Eastern Kentucky lineup off the scoreboard over the final 6.2 innings as the Marshall University baseball team rallied to comeback and defeat the Colonels, 4-2 on Tuesday afternoon at the Kennedy Center.

The Marshall (15-20) bullpen did not allow a run in relief of starter Greg Williams as Austin Pratt, Jesse Fernandez, Kyle Blank, Joe Church, Josh King and Ian Kadish combined to give up three hits, no walks and strikeout three.

Church (2-1) earned the win pitching a perfect seventh inning, while Kadish allowed a bunt single in the ninth, as his only blemish, to pick his fourth save of the year.

EKU (14-23) righty reliever Anthony Bazzani (0-7) was tagged with the loss.

The Colonels used consecutive RBI singles form Bryan Soloman and Michael Garcia to knock out Williams from the game in the third. The lefty worked 2.1 innings, giving up two earned runs on three hits with four walks and two strikeouts.

Righty Austin Pratt was able to escape the Colonels attack without any further damage by notching a strikeout and ground out to send the game to the bottom of the inning.

Victor Gomez (2-for-4) plated the first run for the Herd in the bottom of the fifth when he lined a base hit to center scoring Victor Ramos.

An inning later, Kenny Socorro (2-for-4) knocked a single through the left side to bring Steven Ross home, who had doubled early in the stanza.

MU was able to break the 2-2 tie in the seventh by putting up a two-spot, which turned out to be the difference in the ball game. V.Gomez sliced a double to right and moved to third on a passed ball. Nathan Gomez was intentionally walked before being lifted for pinch runner Ben Jurevicius, who promptly stole second. After a strikeout and later a walk to Gray Stafford, Ross cracked a base hit to left, scoring two to take the 4-2 lead and round out the scoring.

Ross finished 2-for-4 with a double, run scored and two RBI.

MU took the season series from EKU 2-1 with the victory.
