Blacksburg, Va. - Marshall University senior Christian Brand will compete in the NCAA Regional tournament at the Pete Dye River Course of Virginia Tech on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Brand, a Charleston native, took part in a practice round Wednesday at the course along with the rest of the field, as they prepare for Thursday's first round. The tee time for individuals is set for 9:40 a.m. and live scoring of the event will be available online at www.golfstat.com throughout the tournament.

Brand is the first Marshall men's golfer to make an NCAA Regional since Jonathan Clark did so in 1996.

Brand led the Thundering Herd with a school-record single season stroke average of 73.24 this past season and ranks second all-time at Marshall in career stroke average with a 74.3 mark. He recorded six Top 20 finishes this season, including two top 10 finishes, and placed 11th overall at the Conference USA Championships.

The 2011 NCAA Men's Golf Championships consists of six 54-hole regional tournaments. Thirteen teams and 10 individuals will compete at each of three regionals, while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals.

The finals will be conducted May 31-June 5, at Karsten Creek in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Oklahoma State will serve as the host institution for this year's championship.

Virginia Tech's Pete Dye River Course is a 7,685-yard, par 72, course that was re-designed in 2005 and is nestled along the banks of the New River.
