Track and Field Wins Six Events at Ohio Open

ATHENS, Ohio - The Marshall University women's track and field team registered six first-place finishes on Saturday afternoon at the Ohio Open hosted by the Ohio University Bobcats.
In its final tune up for the Conference USA Championship meet next weekend, the Thundering Herd took the top three spots in the 200 meter dash with Brittany Carey leading the way as she took first place with a time of 25.09. Vanessa Jules and Amber Pierson were second and third with times of 25.14 and 25.58, respectively.
Alecia Hairston recorded the first individual top finish of her season by winning the 800 meter run in a time of 2:24.65. She was four seconds clear of Ohio's Colleen Kratofil who finished in second place. In another distance race, Heather Saffel crossed the finish line in first place as she defeated Kelsey Mcalpine in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Saffel's time of 11:43.14 was ten seconds clear of Mcalpine.
The 4x100 meter relay team of Carey, Jules, Delkira Maybin and Moriah Njoku ran to a time of 48.78 which crushed Ohio who finished in second. MU was eight seconds ahead of the Bobcats.
Moving to field events, Jasia Richardson and Amanda Kennedy each notched their second first-place finish of the outdoor season as Richardson took the triple jump and Kennedy winning the javelin. Richardson posted a mark of 12.18m for the victory while Kennedy threw a distance of 42.59m.
