HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim picked right-hander reliever Joe Church in the 40th round of the Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft on Wednesday afternoon.
Church, the 1,215 pick and regarded as one of the hardest throwers out of the MU bullpen, lit up the radar gun in his redshirt-sophomore season. The Princeton, W.Va., native posted a 2-2 record striking out a batter-per-inning, collecting 13 punch outs in 13 innings.
Marshall now has six players drafted off the 2011 MU baseball roster, the most picks in one draft in program history. Of those six players selected, only one, Greg Williams, was drafted out of high school.
