HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The cog in the middle of the Marshall infield and batting lineup, Kenny Socorro, was selected in the 44th round by the Chicago Cubs of the MLB First Year Player Draft on Wednesday afternoon.

Socorro, who led all players in league batting average at .413, finished with 200 career hits in his four-year career for the Thundering Herd. He became just the fifth player in school history to reach that milestone. The Miami, Fla., native roped his 200th career hit in his final collegiate at bat in his home state of Florida against C-USA opponent UCF.

The durable infielder ended his stay at Marshall starting 152 consecutive games, dating back to March 9th of 2009.

The standout season for Socorro put his name on the Second Team All-C-USA for his excellence not only at the plate, but in the field as well.

Socorro is the seventh player drafted off the Marshall roster, the most in school history. Only one of the seven players selected were drafted out of high school.
