Richmond, Va. -
Marshall gave up three early goals in the first half, which sealed its fate against the College of William and Mary. The Tribe dealt The Herd a 4-0 loss, giving MU its second defeat of the season.

William and Mary came out of the gates with an eagerness to score as Dani Rutter placed a series of passes into the back of the net within the first six minutes of play. Ten minutes later the Tribe added to their total when Erin Liberatore delivered her second goal of the season off of a long pass by Rutter.

The Herd attempted to slow William and Mary's momentum, as both Megan Tabler (Ashland, Ky./Russell HS) and Erin Blakely (Westerville, Ohio/Arizona State) fired great shots, however, the Tribe capitalized on a breakaway to give W&M the 3-0 lead at the 22-minute mark.

Marshall allowed one more goal in the second period on a header from Emory Camper, which sealed the 4-0 deficit for The Herd.

Coach Kevin Long saw room for improvement, but many positives as he and the squad come away from the VCU Tournament. "William and Mary played at a high level and although it took us 45 minutes to engage, we matched the Tribe effort-for-effort in the second half. Had we played similar in the first period it would have been a different ball game. Our team has seen several areas that need to be addressed, but these opponents have given us a great idea for what's to come from our conference games."

Senior Katie Ball (Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual HS) took the field for the first time today as well. Coach Long was encouraged by her play and ability. Long stated, "It was great to see Katie on the field for the first time of the season. We are excited to see what she brings to our overall game-plan."

The Herd finished with 11 total shots throughout the afternoon competition. Angela DeSumma (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East HS) tallied three, while a series of players each had two. Beyond Tabler, sophomore Lizzy Lemons (Louisville, Ky./Eastern HS) also placed a shot on goal.

Defensively, Betsy Haugh (Earlysville, Ohio/Albemarle HS) saved seven shots.

Marshall looks to kick the dust off of their two game skid as they return home to face Ohio on September 2nd at 7 P.M.
