Volleyball Travels to Southern Miss and UCF

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Now tied for fourth in Conference USA rankings with UCF, Marshall volleyball looks to improve its league status with matches on the road against UCF and Southern Miss this weekend.

The Herd will travel to Hattiesburng, Miss. to take on Southern Miss this Friday at 8 p.m. ET and then proceed to Orlando, Fla. to take on UCF on Sunday at 12 p.m. ET.

This past weekend, Marshall suffered its first home defeat as well as its first loss in five-sets, dropping to 16-8 (6-4 C-USA) after taking losses to UAB and Memphis.

The Herd looks to duplicate its earlier success this season against UCF and Southern Miss, knocking off both teams in five-set decisions in late September in the Cam Henderson Center.

Outside hitter Laura Der leads the Marshall offense, ranking No. 28 in the nation in kills with 4.26 per set and placing No. 28 in NCAA for points with 4.85 per set. The marks also ranks her second amongst the league in both categories.

Setter Sammie Bane is 18 set-ups shy of the 1,000-assist mark for the season and ranks third in the conference with 10.56 per set.

Libero Dorothy Rahal leads the Marshall back row with 418 digs and ranks third in the conference with 4.49 digs per set. Freshman Jillian Shemanski adds 1.00 blocks per set and combines for a team-high 86 blocks for the season.

A LOOK AT SOUTHERN MISS

Ranked second to last in C-USA, the Golden Eagles book a 6-16 (2-8 C-USA) record for the season. The Southern Miss defense has allowed offenses to average 13.71 kills per game and average a .240 hitting percentage, ranking last in both categories amongst the league.

The Golden Eagles are led on offense by Halie Ecker with 255 kills and 3.27 kills per set. Setter Kristen Fleming is fourth in the league with 10.22 assists per set, while libero Elizabeth Rinaudo is fourth in the league as well with 4.30 digs per set.

On defense, Jasmine Crowell books 73 blocks, averaging 0.89 per set. Crowell is second on the team in kills and adds a .270 hitting percentage.

A LOOK AT UCF

Tied with Marshall at the No. 4 spot in C-USA, the Knights own a 9-13 (6-4 C-USA) record. The team is on a two-match win streak after defeating Southern Miss twice this past weekend.

Angelica Crump leads the team on offense with 266 kills and 3.33 kills per set. The setter spot has been split between Marie Reiterova and Dana Faught. Reiterova is averaging 7.88 assists per set, while Faught combines for 4.47 per set.

On defense, Meredith Murphy posts 336 digs, averaging 4.20 per set. Delaina Sarden leads the team with 75 blocks, while adding 170 kills and a .312 hitting percentage on offense.
