Volleyball Set for Matches against Memphis and UAB

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall volleyball ( 16-10, 6-6 C-USA) hits the road for the second weekend in a row as the Herd faces off against Memphis (9-18, 4-8 C-USA) and UAB (16-12, 8-4 C-USA)on Friday and Sunday.

Thundering Herd will start the weekend against Memphis on Friday at 8 p.m. ET and follow with UAB on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET.

Tied for seventh in Conference USA, two wins this weekend will clench a playoff spot in the league tournament.

Marshall is led by outside hitter Laura Der, who is currently ranked No. 24 in the NCAA in kills with 4.32 per set and No. 25 nationally in points with 4.88 per set.

She also leads the team in kills, points, aces, and is third in digs. She ranks in the C-USA top 15 in each of the categories.

Setter Sammie Bane now has over 1,000 assists for the season and is averaging 10.62 assists per set, ranking third in the league.

A LOOK AT MEMPHIS

The Tigers have two players with over 300 kills for the season. Altrese Hawkins is six kills shy of 400 and is averaging 3.79 per set. She also adds 263 digs and 40 blocks.

Marija Jovanovic follows with 309 kills, while booking 54 blocks for the season.

Defensively, Katie Meyer records a team-high 88 blocks, while Aleksandra Petronijevic has 450 digs in the back row.

A LOOK AT UAB

UAB had a nine-match win streak broken by Tulsa this past weekend and is ranked third in the league.

Six different Blazer players have over 100 kills, but Sam Serley leads the team with 286 and a .379 hitting percentage. She also records a team-high 109 blocks at the net.

The setter spot is split between Alison Woods and Becca Howard, while Woods leads the team with 7.55 assists per set.

Libero Rachel Fairbanks adds 526 digs and is averaging 4.83 per set.
