Der Earns Regional Award

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Junior outside hitter Laura Der has been named to the AVCA All-Midwest Region Honorable Mention team. She and 11 other Conference USA student-athletes were honored in this year's regional awards.
Der led the 2012 Marshall volleyball team in kills (460), kills per set (4.34), total attempts (1,377), service aces (37), points (521.0) and was third in digs (321). Her season total in attempts ranked second all-time in Marshall's history and her season total in kills broke the top 10.
"I love being a part of the Marshall community and I'm so proud to wear a Thundering Herd jersey," said Der. "I work really hard to represent the school every time I'm on the court. Being able to bring recognition to our program is the best part of any award."
The Clarksville, Ind. native ranked No. 22 in the NCAA in kills per set this season and also finished as the No. 22 player in the nation in points per set with 4.96.
"Laura had a great season," added head coach Mitch Jacobs. "I'm very proud of her. She puts all her heart into the game and everything she commits to."
Marshall volleyball finished 18-12 for the 2012 season with an 8-8 Conference USA record.
