ORLANDO, Fla.- The Thundering Herd track and field team will open its outdoor account this Saturday with an 18 event meet at UCF's Black and Gold Challenge.

The Challenge will usher Marshall into the outdoor season with the C-USA Indoor Championships having taken place some three weeks ago. Several of the Herd's athletes found success at that event, and will be relishing the opportunity to play their trade on the outdoor scene at UCF's Soccer and Track Complex. UCF, Georgia Southern, Jacksonville, Northern Illinois, Illinois, and FIU will join Marshall as the teams competing in the meet.

The Herd will commence Saturday's action with a 9:00 a.m. javelin throw by Amanda Kennedy and conclude the Black and Gold Challenge later that evening with the 4x400 meter relay. Marshall's two All-Conference USA performers from the indoor championships - Vanessa Jules and Jasia Richardson - will compete in the high jump (11:00) and triple jump (12:30) events, respectively. Former standout Elaine Derricott, who redshirted during the indoor season, will also return to the team as she competes in the long jump at 12:30 p.m.

Following the conclusion of the event, Marshall will remain in Orlando over the week for the two-day UCF Invitational which is scheduled to take place next Friday and Saturday. A heat sheet and complete schedule of events for the Black and Gold Challenge can be found by clicking the link below.
