As the 2011-2012 Marshall athletics season comes to a close, HerdZone.com is taking a look back at some of the top moments of the past year. Several exciting moments took place for Marshall during the most recent season, and we did our best to select the top 10 noteworthy moments.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.- Vanessa Jules had never competed as a multi-event athlete prior to the 2011-12 season, but marked her arrival on the scene by setting a school record and finishing second in the pentathlon at the 2012 C-USA Indoor Championships. During the event she broke a Marshall 60m hurdles record that had stood for 12 years en-route to claiming a school-record 3791 points in the pentathlon as she finished in second-place.

Jules would carry over her stellar performances to the outdoor season, where she placed third in the heptathlon by setting another school record with 5216 points at the 2012 C-USA Outdoor Championships. Teammate Elaine Derricott had set the mark just one year prior, but Jules emerged yet again to claim third-place in the heptathlon at the C-USA Championships with a first-place finish in the 100m hurdles and a second-place finish in the 200m dash stage of the event.
For Jules, it was a record-setting year that saw her earn vital points for the Herd at both Conference Championships, break nine school records, and establish herself as one of the top multi-event athletes in the conference. With a year of experience and success now under her belt, Coach Small and the rest of the Thundering Herd coaching staff will consider themselves fortunate she still has one more season to take even further strides on the
