IRVING, Texas - Marshall senior golfer Nathan Kerns has been named Conference USA Golfer of the Week after his second place finish in this week's Marshall Invitational
Kerns, who had strong summer with three wins, captured a second place finish at the 43rd playing of the event. Kerns' strong 54-hole performance was crucial for the Thundering Herd as a team as it finished in a tie for second with the two-time defending event champions Ohio State. The runner-up finish is the first for Marshall in its own tournament since 1983.
The Ironton, Ohio native fell one stroke short of eventual individual champion Korey Ward of Xavier. Kerns though was just one of three golfers (out of 88 total participants) to record a score of under-par in all three rounds.
"The award is well deserved," head coach Matt Grobe said. "Nathan is not only a leader but a great golfer and I am really happy for him."
This is his second C-USA Golfer of the Week award.
