Herd takes aim at True Blue Golf Club at Pawley’s Island this week
PAWLEY'S ISLAND, S.C. – Marshall Men's Golf is back in action at the Golfweek/Stifel Spring Challenge this week, taking aim at True Blue Golf Club at Pawley's Island, S.C.
The Herd is one of 16 teams competing in the 54-hole event, which got underway on Monday morning at the par-72, 7,028-yard course.
The tournament will continue with 18 holes each day with tee times starting at 7:35 a.m. For Tuesday's second round, the Herd will start on Hole No. 10.
Competing for the Herd in the team portion this week at True Blue are Clayton Thomas, Tanner Vest, Cael Ropietski, Wes Lorish and Jack Minutoli. Ben Bridges is competing as an individual.
On the first day of action, Ropietski and Vest are both in the top-20 after carding 1-over 73s. Vest had an eagle on the par-5 4th hole and overcame a pair of late double-bogeys with a birdie on his last hole to take momentum into Tuesday while Ropietski had a consistent round with a birdie and 15 pars on the day.
Clayton Thomas led all competitors in the field with 16 pars in the first round and is currently at +3 for the Herd. All those players are within six shots of the tightly-bunched field at True Blue.
