Volleyball Sets Targets on East Tennessee State

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall volleyball returns to the road and sets its sights on East Tennessee State for a Labor Day showdown. The match will start at 7 p.m. ET on Monday in Johnson City, Tenn.

The Thundering Herd enters the match with a 3-3 record after going winless in the Cardinal Classic this past weekend. Marshall took losses to Louisville, Duke and Samford.

Laura Der led the Herd during the two-day invitational, earning All-Tournament honors. The junior outside hitter finished the weekend with a team-high 36 kills and a 4.00 kill per set average. She also combined for four service aces and 22 digs.

Senior outside hitter Katy Schad currently leads the team with 71 kills and 73 digs for the season.

Defensively, freshman Jillian Shemanski continues to be a force at the net, leading the team with 16 blocks (5 solo, 11 assists). Sophomore setter Sammie Bane totals 200 assists for the season and averages 9.09 assists per set.

East Tennessee State has a 6-2 record coming into its home opener against Marshall, with its only two losses coming against South Carolina and Clemson. ETSU most recently finished second in the Clemson Classic, knocking off Chattanooga 3-0 and Charlotte 3-1, while taking a 3-0 loss to Clemson.

All-Atlantic Sun preseason selection Megan Devine leads the Bucs with 123 kills and a 4.10 kill per set ratio. She also totals nine service aces, 19 blocks, and leads the team with 99 digs.

Sophomore middle blocker Meredith Hardy will be looking to continue her dominance on defense, recording 46 total blocks (10 solo, 36 assists) on the season. She is second on the team with 83 kills.
