GREENSBORO, N.C. -- A busy weekend came to a close Saturday evening at North Carolina A&T's Irwin Belk Track as the final track and field events of the NCAA East Preliminaries finished up.

In a historic Thundering Herd season which saw eight ladies qualify for the NCAA Prelims, seniors Vanessa Jules (heptathlon) and Crystal Walker (long jump) qualified for the championships which will be held June 5-8 in Eugene, Ore.

Saturday's events began for Marshall at noon, when senior Amanda Kennedy took 41st overall in the javelin. The Marshall record-holder threw the javelin 41.76 meters, 6.47 off her collegiate best, and was 5.25 meters from a qualifying score. The javelin throw was won by Penn State's Lauren Kenney with a distance of 54.02 meters.

In the triple jump, senior Jasia Richardson, who set Marshall's record in the triple jump earlier this season, finished 18th with a score of 12.44 meters. Her series of leaps was 0.22 meters from making her the third member of the Herd to qualify for this season's NCAA Championships.

The final event of the day featured Shanice Johnson, Loren Dyer, Kearra Haynes, and Amber Pierson running the 4x400 relay. The quartet took 23rd overall after clocking a time of 3:41.82.
