@HerdVolleyball Welcomes Two Texas Teams This Weekend

Marshall volleyball continues its homestand this weekend, welcoming two Texas teams to Huntington. The Herd will face league-leading UTSA (13-7, 9-0) on Friday, Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. and will conclude the weekend with a match against UTEP (4-16, 2-7) on Sunday, Oct. 26 at 12:30 p.m.

HAVE YOU HERD?



Herd junior Lauren Legge (Pliny, W.Va.) is coming off a career-high weekend, where she recorded a team season and personal high of 19 kills last Friday in the Herd's 3-1 loss to UAB. Legge remained hot on Sunday, collecting a match-best 18 slams as the Herd defeated Charlotte 3-2.



Sophomores Ally Kiekover (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Cassie Weaver (Huntington) continue to lead the Herd offensively, as the middle blocker and outsider hitter boast 236 kills and 220 kills, respectively.



SCOUTING THE ROADRUNNERS



UTSA is coming off a huge weekend, taking down conference favorite Western Kentucky to remain unbeaten in C-USA play.



Former Offensive Player of the Week Dempsey Thornton leads the offensive push for the Roadrunners with 286 kills (fourth in C-USA), averaging 3.62 kills per set. Current Offensive Player of the Week Dajana Boskovic follows closely with 247, averaging 4.26 kills per set.



Current conference Setter of the Week Jessica Waldrip (three-time winner of the award) is third in C-USA with 785 assists, averaging 10.47 per set.



Kylie Schott controls the UTSA net game with 68 total blocks.



Marshall and the Roadrunners have faced Green Bay, North Texas, Middle Tennessee, UAB, and WKU this season. UTSA only lost to Green Bay, falling 3-2, which Marshall defeated 3-1.



SCOUTING THE MINERS



UTEP is led by freshman Coline Coessens, who has 205 kills this season.



Fellow first-year player Krystal Ejesieme leads the Miners defensively with 67 total blocks.



The Herd and UTEP have faced four common opponents this season; both fell 3-2 to North Texas and WKU 3-0 and defeated Middle Tennessee. UTEP also beat UAB, which downed the Herd, 3-1.



WE MEET AGAIN



Marshall last faced UTSA in the 2013 Conference Tournament semifinals, falling in straight sets. Then-freshman Weaver finished the match with 11 kills and a .474 hitting percentage.



The Herd fell to UTEP 3-2 last season. Then-freshman Elyse Panick (Chicago) collected 10 kills, two service aces, and two solo blocks in the loss.



UP NEXT



Marshall will head back out on the road, traveling to Ruston, La., to face Louisiana Tech on Friday, Oct. 31 at 8 p.m. and facing Middle Tennessee in Murfreesboro, Tenn., for a Sunday showdown on Nov. 2 at 2 p.m.
