HUNTINGTON, W. Va. - Conference USA announced the list of 14 student-athletes receiving the league's Fall Spirit of Service Award on Wednesday afternoon. The award recognizes the community service efforts of the league's student-athletes.

Marshall volleyball's Sammie Bane (Brownstown, Ind.), a senior setter, is one of three volleyball players receiving the award. Western Kentucky's Heather Boyan and Middle Tennessee's Chelsea Ross were also named to the list.

Bane is a three-time Academic All-Conference selection and two-time second team All-C-USA selection. Earlier this fall, the double major in exercise science and psychology was named to the Capitol One All-District Academic team with a 3.95 cumulative GPA.

For the past three years, Bane has volunteered with the River Cities youth volleyball league, spending two hours every Sunday teaching young athletes during the spring semesters. She currently serves as the Marshall chapter of Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) president.

Bane finished her career at Marshall fourth all-time with over 4.000 assists.
