Derricott Takes Second on First Day of Conference USA Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.-Marshall senior Elaine Derricott finished second in the pentathlon with a score of 3,803 points to lead the Thundering Herd Friday, on the first day of competition at the Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Birmingham. The meet is being held at the CrossPlex in Birmingham.
Marshall currently stands 12th in the team standings with eight points.
Derricott also placed 20th in the long jump (5.45 meters), as did Bethany Drury in the weight throw with a mark of 13.07 meters.
Andrea Porter notched an 18th place finish in the prelims of the 800 meter run, while Kametra Byrd's time of 7.71 seconds put her 23rd in the 60 meter dash prelims.
Tianya Hankerson posted a time of 57.86 seconds in the 400 meter dash prelims (26th) and Kearra Haynes added a 40th-place finish in the 200 meter dash (25.69 seconds).
The championship will continue Saturday, beginning with the high jump at 1 p.m. ET and ending with the 4x400 meter relay at 6:15 p.m. ET.
