Baseball Begins Season Midweek Play

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.-The Marshall baseball team will open up midweek play with two games this week- Morehead State on Tuesday, March 11, at 3:00 p.m. and Ohio University Wednesday, March 12, at 4:00 p.m.
HAVE YOU HERD?
Marshall is coming off its first Conference USA opening series win since 2009, when the team swept Memphis. The Herd boasts a 5-9 record (2-1 C-USA).
Junior pitcher Matt Margaritonda (Freehold, N.J.) made headlines, nabbing the school's fourth C-USA Pitcher of the Week Title after his outstanding performance Sunday against ECU.
In just his fourth start, the righty tossed a complete game and recorded a career high 11 strikeouts.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Morehead State enters its faceoff with the Herd with a 6-8 record (1-2 in Ohio Valley Conference).
The Eagles opened OVC play with a three-game series at Murray State, taking the final game on Monday with an 11-10 victory in 12 innings.
Morehead is led offensively by junior Brandon Rawe who leads the team in average (.419), hits (26), homeruns (2), and RBI (13).
The Eagles have a total of four players with an above .300 average.
SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
Ohio posts a 4-9 record, coming off a one win, three loss series with Longwood.
The Bobcats do not begin Mid-American Conference play until March 21st, when Central Michigan comes to town.
Freshman Mitch Longo leads Ohio with a .451 batting average. The outfielder has four doubles and two homeruns this season.
UP NEXT
The Herd will have its first home game of 2014 with a three-game series against 2013 regular season co-champions Southern Miss. The series is set to begin Friday, March 14.
