Herd Edges Tulane in Walkoff Fashion

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.-Marshall baseball faced Tulane in a Friday night matchup under the lights at Appalachian Power Park. In an exciting 9th inning rally, the Herd plated two off an Eric Escobedo (Troup, Ga.) single up the middle to take the game in 3-2 walk-off fashion.
Tulane scored first, when a leadoff single to left fielder Richard Carthon began the 3rd inning. Carthon took second on a wild pitch, and advanced to third on a bunt single. He then scored, and Tulane plated a second run on a fly ball.
Marshall replied in the 4th when shortstop Sergio Leon (Miami) led off with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Andrew Dundon (Lincoln Park, N.J.). Designated hitter Chase Vogelbach (Ft. Myers, Fla.) then doubled down the left field line, scoring Leon to get Marshall on the board.
The score remained at 2-1 until the Herd, down to its final at-bats, led off the inning with Dundon singling up the middle. He moved to second after Vogelbach was walked. Both runners advanced on a single to the shortstop from sophomore Aaron Bossi (St. Louis, Mo.).
With bases loaded and two outs, Escobedo stepped into the box, and on the first pitch he saw, ripped the ball up the middle. Dundon and Vogelbach both came around to score to give Marshall the victory.
Dundon went 2-3 in the contest, while Leon hit .500 for the day at 2-4.
Lefty Sam Hunter (Ashland, Ky.) earned his first win of the season as the Green Wave dropped to 5-5 in C-USA play.
Marshall returns to action Saturday at 10 a.m. for the second of the three-game series.
