SAN ANTONIO, Texas-The Marshall baseball team dropped a 7-2 decision at UTSA on Saturday in the second game of the series between the two teams.

Saturday's game presented itself as quite an interesting contest. It was the third inning before a hit was recorded (sophomore Aaron Bossi (St. Louis, Mo.)) and the eighth inning before a batter struck out.

Marshall scored its first run in the top of the eighth. Junior John Beary (Apopka, Fla.) led off with a single and advanced to third on a single from redshirt sophomore Robert Fajardo (Miami).

Freshman Corey Bird (Elkview, W.Va.) grounded into a double play on the next ball, but allowed Beary to plate a run and get the Herd on the board.

The Herd added another run in the ninth; junior TJ Diffenderfer (Mount Juliet, Tenn.) smacked a ball to right center, and came around to score on a walk, passed ball, and groundout.

UTSA again struck first, plating a run in the third off a double and single. The Roadrunners then added to the lead when freshman CJ Pickering belted his first career homer over the left field fence.

Another home run in the bottom of the sixth increased the UTSA lead to three runs, and a troublesome eighth allowed the Roadrunners to score four times off four hits and an error.

Beary turned in a 2-3 day with a run scored.

Marshall returns to Roadrunner Field Sunday for the finale of the three-game series, slated to begin at 11:30 a.m. (ET).
