RICHMOND, Ky.--Marshall baseball traveled to Richmond, Ky. Wednesday to face Eastern Kentucky for its second game of the week. The Herd fell to the Colonels 4-1.
The game was scoreless until the 5th, when EKU broke the blank first, plating three runs off a single, double and triple.
Marshall got on the board its next at-bats, when junior Sergio Leon (Miami) led off with a single and advanced to third on an Andrew Dundon (Lincoln Park, N.J.) double to right center. Leon then scored on a groundout from designated hitter Chase Vogelbach (Ft. Myers, Fla.).
The Colonels added another run in the 7th to make the score 4-1, which it would remain for the duration of the contest.
Marshall threatened in multiple innings, having a base runner in every inning but two, and a runner in scoring position six of the seven times the Herd was on base.
The Herd's fielding, combatted with Marshall's pitching staff, worked very efficiently, only allowing more than four EKU batters twice.
Leon turned in a 2-3 performance, and first baseman TJ Diffenderfer (Mount Juliet, Tenn.) went 2-4 on the day.
The Herd will return to action Friday, April 4 in Beckley, W.Va. when Marshall takes on new C-USA member Florida Atlantic at Epling Stadium. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
