BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- Marshall baseball fell to UAB 10-2 in the opening game of the series Friday night.

The game was scoreless and each team with three hits a piece until the top of the fifth, when Herd left fielder Robert Fajardo (Miami) boarded on a hit-by-pitch. After stealing second, he plated the first run of the game on a double from Bird.

Marshall scored its second run in the ninth off back-to-back doubles from pinch hitter John Beary (Apopka, Fla.) and right fielder Eric Escobedo (Troup, Ga.).

UAB responded with two runs off a single, wild pitch, and balk to take the lead in the bottom of that inning. The Blazers plated eight in the eighth to add insurance and secure the 10-2 victory.
