BECKLEY, W.Va.-Marshall baseball entered Sunday's contest looking for its second consecutive conference sweep, but was unable to hold off Florida Atlantic, falling 17-3 to the Owls.

Marshall put itself on the board right away after shortstop Sergio Leon (Miami) walked, stole second, and scored on an RBI single from designated hitter Chase Vogelbach (Ft. Myers, Fla.).

FAU took back the lead the following inning, when four hits brought two Owls across.

Marshall tied it back up in the bottom of the 2nd when catcher Matt Reed (Purcellville, Va.) singled to center and stole second and later scored on an RBI single from left fielder Robert Fajardo (Miami).

The Herd plated its final run of the day in the 6th inning after Vogelbach, on base by hit-by-pitch, scored on a double by first baseman TJ Diffenderfer (Mount Juliet, Tenn.).

The Owls scored three in the 3rd, one in the 4th and 6th, two in the 7th, three in the 8th, and five in the 9th.

Marshall now stands with a .500 record in C-USA at 7-7, and 11-18 overall.

The Herd will be back in action Tuesday when it faces Eastern Kentucky at the Kennedy Center Field for its second non-conference home game of the season.
