HUNTINGTON, W.Va.-Marshall volleyball (5-9) begins Conference USA action Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. when the Herd takes on Charlotte (11-6) at Halton Arena in Charlotte, N.C.
"We are excited to get started in conference play," head coach Mitch Jacobs said. "It's going to be a fight every night to reach our goal of being one of the eight that get to play in the conference championship tournament."

HAVE YOU HERD?
Sophomore Cassie Weaver (Huntington) became the fifth member of the 2014 team to earn all-tournament honors after her performance in last weekend's Hokie Invitational. The outside hitter turned in 27 kills, 39 digs, and two assisted blocks.
Junior middle blocker Jillian Shemanski (Jupiter, Fla.) is third in C-USA with 1.23 blocks per set, but has the most in the conference with 54 total blocks.
SCOUTING THE 49ers
Charlotte enters the match coming off a tournament win at the UNF/JU Invitational and have won six of their last eight matches. The 49ers are led by freshman Irem Asci, who has 198 kills (8th in C-USA) with 3.14 kills per set.
Junior Brittany Held is the 49ers assists leader with 646, which is first in the conference but ranks her third with 10.25 assists per set. Sophomore Semen Sen leads Charlotte defensively with 34 total blocks.
Senior Savannah Gaster is coming off a UNF/JU MVP Award after collecting 51 kills in the tournament.
WE MEET AGAIN
The Herd last faced Charlotte in 2013, picking up a 3-1 victory as Marshall won its fourth consecutive match. Then-junior Sammie Bane (Brownstown, Ind.) turned in 52 assists during the contest.
UP NEXT
Marshall returns to the Henderson Center on Friday, Sept. 26 to take on Middle Tennessee at 6 p.m., and will remain home for a Sunday showdown with FIU at 1 p.m.
