Box Score

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw after two overtime periods against New Mexico Friday at Hoops Family field at Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex.

The Herd moves to 4-8-1 and 0-5-1 in Conference USA play. New Mexico is now 7-4-1, 1-3-1 in C-USA.

AGAINST THE LOBOS

Both teams had their chances in the first period, but the score went into halftime tied at 0-0.

In the second period, Marshall came alive just after the second half started. Junior Daniel Jodah (Mississauga, Ontario), sent a clean pass to junior Rimario Gordon at about 30 yards out. Gordon streaked through the Lobos back line and chipped a shot past the Lobos keeper to make the score 1-0 in the 45th minute.

New Mexico would level in the 59th minute, when Sam Gleadle worked his way to the end line and sent a pass to Chris Wehan for Wehan's 10th goal of the season.

The game would go to extra time, with neither team able to find the net. New Mexico had a slight edge in shots, 15-14. New Mexico also had six shots on goal, with Marshall getting five on net.

Marshall goalkeeper Dominik Reining (Frankfurt, Germany) made three saves, while Christian Kershaw (Severna Park, Md.) and Connor Marino (Hopewell, N.J.) made team saves off the line.

THE GRAY AREA

Coach Bob Gray on the match:

"I was pleased with the entire team tonight. We played our hearts out with guys like Tommy Trupo and Trevor Starcher playing their hearts out and a guy like Chris Sanchez coming off the bench and playing well."

"We were hoping for three points. One point right now, at least it keeps us in the ball game here for a Conference USA Championships bid. We have to get a big win next weekend against UAB at home."
