HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall baseball announced its schedule of games for the fall season. The Herd will play one game against Potomac State on Sunday, Oct. 11 at 1 p.m. and then a two game series against West Virginia that will take place on Friday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 17 at noon.

The game against the Catamounts will be held at the Kennedy Center Field on Route 2 in Huntington, while the series versus the Mountaineers is in Morgantown, W.Va. at the Monongalia County ballpark.

"This is a great time to see some outside competition," Herd coach Jeff Waggoner said. "Being able to play Potomac State and WVU lets us see where we're at as a team while also letting people come watch three in state programs."

The 2015-16 Herd features nine field players that appeared in more than 10 games last season. Among the nine returners to the field is junior Corey Bird (Pinch, W.Va.) and senior Aaron Bossi (St. Louis, Mo.), as they recorded a batting average over .300, while Bird had a team high 65 hits and Bossi had 15 RBIs on 34 hits.

Returning to the mound are five pitchers from 2015 that recorded 15 innings, including Chase Boster (Stafford, Va.), who led the team with a 7-1 record in 12 appearances with a 2.95 ERA. JD Hammer (Fort Collins, Colo.) returns as the leading strikeout pitcher for Marshall with 56 from last season.

Leading the Herd in his 10th year is head coach Jeff Waggoner. Waggoner has mentored 29 Marshall student-athletes to be selected in the MLB Amateur Draft, including 18 since 2008. Waggoner is assisted by Tim Donnelly, Josh Newman, Brian Karlet and Heath Storey.
