Marshall game captains at WKU, as selected by Coach Doc Holliday and his staff -- Offense: Michael Selby, center; Devonte Allen, wide receiver; Deandre Reaves, wide receiver; Sebastian Johansson, offensive guard; Remi Watson, running back; Defense: Evan McKelvey, linebacker; D.J. Hunter, linebacker; Taj Letman, safety; Steve Dillon, tackle; Jarquez Samuel, nose tackle. All except Selby are seniors. Selby, Reaves, Allen and McKelvey represented the Herd for the coin toss.
Long snapper Matt Cincotta's fumble recovery is his second this season and second of his career (Ohio, Week 2).
Safety Taj Letman's fumble recovery (9:40 first quarter) is the first in his three-year Herd career.
Tyler Williams' 57-yard punt (8:46, first quarter) also was inside the 20. The senior punter has 20 punts of 50 or more yards this season (10 of 55 or longer) and 26 inside the 20 kicks.
Deandre Reaves' 97-yard kick return for a touchdown gives him two kick returns for scores this season, the first Herd player with multiple kick return touchdowns in one season since college football Hall of Famer Troy Brown had three in 1991. Reaves' return ties for the third-longest in Marshall history (100 by Ray Crisp at Akron in 1977; 100 by Troy Evans at Southern Miss in 2010).
Quarterback Chase Litton's fumble in the third quarter (12:47) was only the second fumble lost by the Herd offense in the last 40 quarters and the first in 29-plus quarters. The only one since the last play of the third quarter in Week 2 loss to Ohio by Devon Johnson was a first-quarter fumble by Tony Pittman in a Week 5 win over Old Dominion.
Kick returner Deandre Reaves has set the Marshall record for single-game kick return yards, 221, (6:50 third quarter), topping the 208 by Darius Marshall in a Sept. 27, 2008 loss to West Virginia. It also is the high in a C-USA game this season. Reaves already owned the Herd career kick return yardage record. His 221 kick return yards (6 returns) rank third in a game in Conference USA history. Top two - 269 yards, Scott Wesley, Army, vs. Tulane, 11-13-04 (7 returns); 261 yards, Charles Ross, Rice, at Tulane, 11-13-10 (7 returns).
