AKRON, Ohio -- Marshall track and field finished its second and final day at the Akron Invitational at Stile Field House in Akron, Ohio. The team had 11 runners place in the top-eight for their events.
Sophomore Isatu Fofanah (Ponoka, Alberta, Canada) continued her winning ways, sprinting the top time of the preliminary (7.50) in the 60 meter dash, and finishing second in the finals (7.51). Classmate Hope Julmiste (Miami) joined her in the ranks, clocking in at a sixth-place time of 7.59. Fofanah set another school record-- she collected two last weekend-- with the 200 meter time.
Fofanah also took second in the 200 meter dash (Gold Division) with a time of 24.08 and junior Shanice Johnson (Franklin Square, N.Y) placed eighth with a time of 24.98.
Sophomore Kametra Byrd (Miami) sprinted to a third place finish in the 200 meter dash (Blue Division) with a time of 25.07.
In the long jump finals, sophmore Catika Slay (Douglasville, Ga.) secured another top-eight spot, recording a seventh place mark of 5.31 meters.
Senior Loren Dyer (Lortan, Va.) finished sixth in the 400 meter dash (57.36), with sophomore Shyra Molton (Ashland, Va.) following closely behind in seventh at 57.58.
The 4x400 relay of freshmen Andrea Chidester (Williamstown, W.Va.), Breanna Hargrove (Fishers, Ind.), and Naja Greer (Blacklick, Ohio) and sophomore Tianya Hankerson (Fruitland, Md.) narrowly missed the podium, clocking in with a fourth place time of 3:58.76.
Greer also nabbed an eighth place finish in the 400 meter dash (58.78).
Marshall will next compete in the Marshall Invitational beginning Friday, Feb. 13 in Huntington at the Jeff Small Track in the Cline Athletic Complex.
