WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -
Marshall baseball dropped to 4-7 Sunday after falling 8-3 to Wake Forest (8-4) at Wake Forest Baseball Park in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Sophomore Corey Bird (Pinch, W.Va.) collected his first collegiate homerun over right field five pitches into the game, and six other Herd players recorded hits in the contest. Senior Andrew Dundon (Lincoln Park, N.J.) recorded a hit, run, and RBI and stole two bases.

Marshall took the lead right away, when Bird launched his long ball. The Herd plated another run that inning as senior Josh King (Troup, Ga.) followed with a double to left and scored on a RBI groundout from Dundon.

Wake didn't wait long to tie it up, scoring two runs on two singles, a passed ball, and two groundouts. The Demon Deacons then took the lead in the third, plating another run off two more singles and another groundout.

WF added to its lead the following two innings, scoring a fourth time in the fourth courtesy of a homerun, and twice in the fifth off four singles.

The Herd cut the lead to 6-3 in the top of the sixth, after Dundon came home thanks to an RBI single from junior Robert Fajardo (Miami), but it was short-lived, as an error and double to deep center brought two more runs in for the Deacs to go up 8-3.

Marshall threatened in the late innings, leaving two men on in each the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings.

Starter Matt Margaritonda (Freehold, N.J.) took the loss, allowing five runs off seven hits in four innings of work.
