BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Marshall baseball (6-14) dropped another close game Friday, falling 5-2 to UAB (11-8) at Regions Field in Birmingham, Ala.
It was also announced that Sunday's contest has been moved to Saturday, which will feature double header action beginning at 2 p.m. (ET).
The two teams combined for just nine hits on the day; Marshall collected three while the Blazers picked up six.
Sophomore Corey Bird (Pinch, W.Va.) broke up a no hitter in the top of the fifth for the Herd's first hit of the day. An inning later, freshman Austin Norman (Fairmont, W.Va.) doubled to center field and sophomore Matt Reed (Purcellville, Va.) copied him two batters later for the only MU hits.
UAB scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the third, and plated a second in the bottom of the fifth. Norman and senior Andrew Dundon (Lincoln Park, N.J.), who was intentionally walked to put two on, both scored on Reed's double down the left field line to tie the game in the sixth.
The tie was short-lived, as the Blazers scored three times in the bottom of the frame to take the final lead of the game.
Herd reliever Clint Wilson (Austin, Texas) fanned three in 1.2 innings of work. Senior TJ Diffenderfer's (Mount Juliet, Tenn.) 11-game hit streak was snapped after was walked three times and popped up in his only official at-bat of the contest.
Marshall and UAB will conclude the series with a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. (ET) Saturday.
