Herd Readies for Power Park Opener

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -
Marshall baseball (7-16, 1-5) will play its Appalachian Power Park opener this weekend, welcoming Conference USA foe FIU (11-14, 3-3) to Charleston beginning Friday, March 27.



The Herd embarks on its 10th season at APP, where it first began to play after joining C-USA in 2005-06.



All games will be aired on ESPN 94.1 FM and AM 940 for audio coverage, and fans with an access pass can watch the games via live streaming. Live stats will be available for all three contests.

HAVE YOU HERD?



In Marshall's 11-8 loss to Ohio Wednesday night, senior Sergio Leon (Miami) smacked his first career grand slam in a 2-for-5, 4 RBI performance. The shortstop is ninth in the league with a .354 batting average and tied for sixth with six stolen bases.



Junior Michael Taylor (St. Albans, W.Va.) is coming off a career-high outing against UAB, tossing eight innings and picking up nine strikeouts. The righty allowed no earned runs in the 2-0 loss, and is currently seventh in C-USA with a 1.46 ERA in league games and tied for first with 17 strikeouts, and has sole possession of first with seven K's looking.

SCOUTING THE PANTHERS



FIU is coming off an extra-innings 3-2 loss to in-state rival Bethune-Cookman on Tuesday, but took two of three from league opponent Charlotte last weekend. Catcher Zach Soria leads the squad with a .371 batting average, but junior infielder Edwin Rios carries a hot bat, having smacked four homers, a double, and a triple in his last three games.





UP NEXT



The Herd will travel to Oxford, Ohio to face Miami (Ohio) on April 1, and will then head south for a three-game series against Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton, Fla., next weekend.
