Robinson is tied for sixth with Wehman Hopke of Furman and Scott Vincent of Virginia Tech after 18 holes. Notably, freshman Alex Weiss (Pickerington, Ohio) carded one of the tournament's 11 eagles when he holed out on No. 2.

As a team, the Herd is tied for 11th with host Furman University and Davidson College at 12-over 300.

ON THE LEADERBOARD
Led by individual frontrunner Brandon Robinson-Thompson (5-under 67), South Carolina - Aiken tops the field at 4-under 284. Robinson-Thomspon is tied with Jacksonville's Nick Torrance for first place after 18 holes.

GABBING WITH GROBE
Quotes by coach Matt Grobe:

On the Herd's performance:
"We struggled a little again in the first round. Both our upperclassmen struggled today and both shot 81. It is always tough as a team to have to count a score in the 80s. But I was really happy with the play of the younger guys. Clark [Robinson] and Alex [Weiss] had great rounds today and Will [Evans] fought hard and saved a good round for us. We still have two rounds left, and I hope we didn't put ourselves too far behind."
