Baseball Suffers Sunday Sweep to No. 22 FAU

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Marshall baseball (9-21, 2-10 C-USA) suffered its first road sweep of the season, falling in the Sunday finale against No. 22 Florida Atlantic 6-1 in Boca Raton.
Senior TJ Diffenderfer (Mount Juliet, Tenn.) collected three hits with a double, and junior DJ Gee (Seattle) recorded two with a double. Gee now supports eight-game hitting and reached base streaks while scoring the Herd's lone run of the day. Junior Aaron Bossi (St. Louis, Mo.) also went 2-for-4.
The Owls plated two runs in the first frame and two in the third take a 4-0 lead, before Gee's run in the fifth cut the deficit. A run in each the sixth and seventh innings from FAU solidified the 6-1 score.
The Herd threatened early, leaving two men on in both the first and second innings.
Gee led off the fourth with a double to left center, and Diffenderfer followed suit, smacking a ball high the hit the fence in left center for another double that allowed Gee to score.
Marshall looked to narrow the gap again in the ninth, after Diffenderfer and Bossi both singled, but were stranded to end the game.
The Herd will be back in action Tuesday, April 7, with its second midweek home game of the season, welcoming Miami (Ohio) to Huntington for a 3 p.m. game at the Kennedy Center.
