Baseball's Diffenderfer Gets College Sports Madness Award

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. --Â Herd senior TJ Diffenderfer (Mount Juliet, Tenn.) has been named to the College Sports Madness all-conference second team, as announced Saturday morning.Â
Diffenderfer, who spent his two seasons with the Herd playing first base and as a constant offensive force, finished his 2015 campaign the Herd leader in extra-base hits, with 11 doubles, four home runs, and a triple. He also led the squad with 30 RBI, 78 bases, and 29 walks. He finished the year second on the team with 53 hits and a .298 batting average.Â
Diffenderfer was skilled in the field, saving six potential throwing errors with his defensive play at first. He collected 402 putouts, committing just five errors on the season with a .988 fielding percentage. The Columbia Junior College transfer led the Herd in Conference USA contests, posting a .313 clip with 19 RBI.Â
Diffenderfer maintained an above .300 average for 38 of the Herd's 52 games, and was fourth in C-USA with a .402 on-base percentage.Â
He is one of five infielders named to the second team, and the second selection to the list in as many seasons for Marshall.Â
