@HerdWSoccer Explodes for Five Goals against EKU

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall women's soccer had its best offensive performance in nine years with a 5-1 defeat of Eastern Kentucky on Monday evening at Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex.
The Herd gained its fifth consecutive victory and moved to 5-1-0, extending its longest streak since it opened 2009 with a program-record seven straight wins. Marshall has not fallen since a 1-0 season-opening loss at Monmouth on Aug. 21. Eastern Kentucky remains winless at 0-6-0.
The Herd's five goals were the most since a 10-0 obliteration of Delaware State on Sept. 25, 2006.
Marshall out-shot the Colonels, 24-7, and EKU took five corner kicks to the Herd's three.
SCORING SUMMARY
- Senior Erin Simmons (Gahanna, Ohio) led the way with two goals (3', 58') and two assists, extending her scoring streak to three matches. She recorded the third multi-goal match of her career, and her first since a 4-1 defeat of UTEP on Sept. 23, 2012. Simmons has 17 career goals, tied for fourth place all-time in the Marshall record book.
- Junior Sydney Arnold (Stafford, Va.) added two goals (61', 63') for her second multi-goal match of the season (first was IUPUI on Aug. 28). She also assisted Simmons' second goal of the match, adding to her team-high total of 12 points this year.
- Senior Kelly Culicerto (Charlotte, N.C.) was credited with the game-winning goal in the 24th minute. It was her first score of the year, and she now holds sole possession of third place in the Herd record book with seven career game-winners.
- Jayne Lawman (Winfield, W.Va.), Kayla Byrnside (Milford, Ohio) and Ashley Seltzer (Knoxville, Tenn.) joined Simmons and Arnold with one assist apiece.
