HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Women's Soccer (2-1) hits the road for two games in Tennessee this week, starting with a Thursday evening contest in Nashville against Belmont (1-2-1). Kick from E.S. Rose Park is set for 7:30 p.m. eastern, 6:30 p.m. central.

COACH RAFA SIMOES
- Head Coach Rafa Simoes is in his third season leading the MU Women's Soccer program. The former associate with the Herd men's team is a 2018 graduate of the University of Charleston in West Virginia, where he played for then-head coach Chris Grassie.
- Simoes and the Herd had a resurgent 2025 season. In his second year as skipper for MU, Simoes led the team to win its most games in a decade (8) with four All-Conference selections, also the program's most since 2015.
PRE-MATCH NOTES
- Marshall rallied for a 3-2 victory Sunday over Wright State. The team's three goalscorers - Viktoria Mikrut, Maria Chaves, and Geovanna Souza - each tallied their first goals of the season. For Chaves, it was the junior defender's first goal in 26 appearances for the Herd. MU has had five goalscorers (Luana Gusmao, Delfina Lombardi) score the team's six goals so far in 2026.
- Herd graduate senior Madison Townes provided the assist in MU's game-winning goal Sunday over Wright State. Townes is a student at Marshall University's Bill Noe Flight School.
- A team full of international flair, Marshall's 2026 squad features players from 16 different countries, the most countries represented on a single team in program history.
- Marshall will look for its first road victory this season. The Herd had a 4-3-2 record away from Huntington last year, including a 3-1 record in non-conference play.
- Following Thursday's game, Marshall will head west to take on UT Martin Sunday evening.
ABOUT THE BRUINS
- At 1-2-1, Belmont is unbeaten at home with a win over Chattanooga and a goalless draw against Tennessee Tech. Both of the team's two goals this season came against Chattanooga.
- Head Coach Kelsey Cameron is in her fourth season leading the Bruins. Senior Laken Whittington was named to the MVC Preseason Watch List to lead the team. Whittington is searching for her first goal in 2026.
- Marshall leads the all-time series, 1-0. The Herd's 1-0 victory on September 1, 2024 was the first-career victory for Head Coach Rafa Simoes.
