COACH RAFA SIMOES

  • Head Coach Rafa Simoes is in his third season leading the MU Women's Soccer program. The former associate with the Herd men's team is a 2018 graduate of the University of Charleston in West Virginia, where he played for then-head coach Chris Grassie.
  • Simoes and the Herd had a resurgent 2025 season. In his second year as skipper for MU, Simoes led the team to win its most games in a decade with four All-Conference selections, also the program's most since 2015.

PRE-MATCH NOTES

  • Marshall will look to bounce back after its defeat to High Point Thursday evening on the road. The good news for the Herd is that the team has a 5-1-2 record in Huntington dating back to the start of the 2025 season.
  • Marshall got unlucky at times Thursday, with shots by Larissa Ozorio and Bailey Fisher both coming off the woodwork in the second half. Fisher has six shots so far this season, her first goal in 2026 would give her 20 for her career and put the Hurricane native three goals shy of tying the program's all-time goal count.
  • Several newcomers made their Herd debut Thursday at High Point, including Katia Cardaba, Florencia Saavedra, Sol Taboada, and Olivia Verbeet. Marshall's 2026 squad features players from 16 different countries, the most countries represented on a single team in program history.

ABOUT THE RAIDERS

  • Wright State is 2-0-1 this season, with wins coming over Butler and IU Pennsylvania.
  • The Raiders have a pair of All-League performers from last season, Caitlin Burger and Kaitlyn Eyink. Burger, a senior from Cincinnati, co-leads the team with two goals so far this season. Freshman Chloe Dunford also has a pair of goals for the Raiders.
  • Marshall earned its first win in program history against Wright State last season with a 2-1 win in Dayton. The Raiders have the 2-1-1 all-time advantage.
