HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall volleyball's Madison Hill, Allie Kellerman, and Ally Kiekover were named American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) South Region Honorable Mentions, announced by the organization Tuesday.
"I'm very happy for these three as they all had excellent years," head coach Mitch Jacobs said. "But I'm also a little disappointed at the same time. If you compared Cassie Weaver's numbers with the other six rotation outside hitters that were nominated for AVCA All-South Region, she should also be named to this team."
This is the first time that Kellerman, Kiekover and Hill received individual honors from the AVCA. The Herd trio are joined by Alexa Filley (Auburn), Danielle Harbin (Arkansas) and Hollann Hans (Texas A&M) on the honorable mention list.
Kellerman is the reigning Conference USA Libero of the Year and was an All-C-USA first team selection this past season. The Louisville, Ky., native ranked third in C-USA for total digs (497) and digs per set (4.52). The senior had a team-high 29 aces. Kellerman ranks second all-time in Herd history for digs with 1,671, while ranking third all-time for digs per set with 3.66. Kellerman holds three spots in the top 10 for digs in a single season, including this past season with 497, good for fifth. She holds the top spot with 555 digs as a junior and ninth with 450 as a sophomore. Kellerman was named C-USA Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 6, Sept. 19, Sept. 26 and Oct. 10. She was named to the C-USA All-Academic team.
Kiekover, a Grand Rapids, Mich., native finished her Marshall career with her second-straight All-Conference USA first team selection. She ended her senior season with 246 kills at a .357 clip and 71 blocks. Kiekover's hitting percentage ranks fourth in C-USA and 56th in the NCAA. She became the eighth Herd student-athlete to record 1,000 kills. Kiekover ranks all-time in five different categories: third for hitting percentage (.324), sixth for block assists (240), seventh for total blocks (299), eighth for solo blocks (59) and kills (1,153). She was named to the C-USA All-Academic team.
Hill earned All-C-USA second team and All-Freshman honors this past season. The Rockwall, Texas native ranks eighth in the NCAA and first in Conference USA with a .418 hitting percentage. The hitting percentage is the best in Herd history for a single season. Hill led the Herd in total blocks with 79, while ranking fourth with 229 kills. Hill was selected the Conference USA Freshman of the Week on Sept. 26 and Oct. 17.
With the three earning AVCA All-Region honors, 10 different Thundering Herd student-athletes have been recognized under coach Jacobs.
