TALLASSHEE, Fla. - Marshall baseball woes continued from the first day to the second, as the Herd was defeated 20-4 by the Florida A&M Rattlers on Saturday.

The Herd falls to 0-2, while the Rattlers move to 2-0.

The Florida A&M bats remained hot over night as they put four runs across the board on four hits in the first inning. Marshall was credited with two errors during the inning.

After a scoreless second inning, Marshall found a way to get a run back in the top of the third. In the first at-bat of the inning, Cory Garrastazu (Miami) hit a deep home run to right center field for a solo shot. Marshall trailed 4-1 after three innings.

In the bottom of the fourth things turned for the worst for the Herd. The Rattlers scored seven runs on six hits, including a three-run home run by Florida A&M's No. 2 hitter Alec Wong.

Marshall cut into the led in the top of the fifth with two-out double from Corey Bird (Elkview, W.Va.) that scored Garrastazu from third. In the following inning for the Herd, Tyler Ratliff (Alexandria, Va.) scored on a throwing error by the catcher, while Aaron Bossi (St. Louis, Mo.) scored on a single up the middle by Reynaldo Pastrana (Miami).

Despite Marshall taking the last three runs, Florida A&M heated up again and put nine runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning on five hits and two errors. The final three innings resulted scoreless for both sides.

At the plate, Bird led the way for Marshall with a single, a double and one RBI. Ratliff also had two hits, both being singles.

The top performer on the mound was freshman Patrick Murphy (Massillon, Ohio), who went 2-2/3 innings with four strikeouts and no runs allowed.

Up next, Marshall returns to Moore-Kittles field on the campus of Florida A&M for the final game of the series on Sunday at 11 a.m.
