Track and Field Heads to C-USA Indoor Championships

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall opens competition Wednesday at the 2016 Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Birmingham, Ala.

The two-day meet at the Birmingham Crossplex is held two weeks prior to the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, also in Birmingham. Marshall will compete against twelve other women's teams.

Action starts at 10 a.m. ET on both days, with competition scheduled to last until 9:30 p.m. Wednesday and 5:45 p.m. Thursday. At the conclusion of Thursday's competition, there will be an awards ceremony.

The top three finishers in each event will earn all-conference honors with first team accolades going to the winners; second team to the runner-ups and third team honors given to the third-place finishers. At the conclusion of the championship, Male and Female Coach of the Year and Track and Field Performers of the Meet will be voted upon by the head coaches.

Marshall is coming into the meet after some impressive performances at the Buckeye Tune-up at Ohio State. Junior Hope Julmiste won the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.54 seconds, a lifetime best. Senior Asia Bange finished third in the 60-meter hurdles, posting a school-record 8.42 seconds. Sophomore Barkley Castro placed third in the 600-meter run (1:40.87), while junior Alexi McEntire placed closely behind in fifth (1:42.17).

In field events, freshman Lauren George earned fourth place in the long jump, with a jump of 5.22m.
