Track and Field Takes Second at Catamount Classic

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall track and field team capped off a successful weekend with a second place finish at the Catamount Classic in Cullowee, N.C., Saturday.
The Herd finished only behind the hosts, Western Carolina, finishing second with 150.50 team points.
Marshall won five individual events and one team event, with several second place finishes.
Senior Asia Bange earned her second straight win in the 100-meter hurdles, at a pace of 13.75 seconds. Bange was the only runner completing the event below the 14 second mark.
The Herd team of Breanna Hargrove, Tianya Hankerson, Naja Greer and Shanice Johnson won the 4x400 meter relay, with a time of 3:48.02.
Freshman Sarah Bever won the high jump with a tied time of 1.68m, but earned the win based on the judge's decision.
Senior Karena Fulks earned victory in the long jump, with a best jump of 5.69m.
In discus, freshman Elena Marchand picked up the win with a best throw of 45.57, more than four meters more than the second-place thrower.
Rounding out the Herd victories, freshman Heidi Heiniger earned the win in javelin throw, with a best throw of 41.63m.
Second places finishes came from Tianya Hankerson (400m dash: 57.10), Adrianna Cook (5,000m run: 18:20.29) and Hasana Clark (hammer throw: 51.49).
"I was really proud of our team in all event areas," Marshall coach Jeff Small said. "They really competed well, got some wins and we were able to place second, just behind the hosts."
