Herd Track and Field Completes Double Meets

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall track and field team completed the Pepsi Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla., and the Cherry Blossom Invitational in Athens, Ohio, Saturday.
The Herd picked up one win at the Cherry Blossom, with sophomore Melany Belot winning the 400-meter hurdles (1:09.49).
Marshall also had three second place performances, with two coming from freshman Kalya Haywood, in the 100m dash (12.57 seconds) and 200m dash (26.68).
Senior Alexandra Phares also placed second, in the 1,500m run (4:44.57). Senior Karena Fulks placed third in the long jump (5.56m).
At the Florida Relays, the Herd's highest result came from freshman Elena Marchand, with a ninth place toss in shot put (13.62m). Another Herd freshman with a big finish was Heidi Heiniger, who finished 14th in the javelin throw (42.26m). Junior Antonique Butler earned 16th place in the triple jump (12.32m).
Senior Asia Bange placed 30th in 100m hurdles (13.70). The Herd's relay team placed 22nd in the 4x400m relay 3:47.97, while the 4x100 team placed 23rd (45.67).
The Herd is back in action on Saturday, April 9, at the Hilltopper Relays, hosted by Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Ky.
