GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Marshall baseball featured two players on the All-Mideast Region Teams by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), as second baseman Aaron Bossi was named to the First team and third baseman Tyler Ratliff was selected to the Second Team.
Bossi, a St. Louis native, had the best season of his four-year career with the Thundering Herd. The senior had a .333 batting average with a team-high 75 hits and 45 RBIs. Bossi registered 14 doubles, one triple and six home runs. His one triple on the year came at the right time, as he is believed to have the first cycle in Marshall history against Louisiana Tech on April 3. Bossi was named to the Conference USA All-Tournament Team after batting .471 (8-for-17) with seven RBIs and a homer.
Ratliff, the Alexandria, Va., native improved drastically in his sophomore year. Ratliff had 66 hits with a .327 batting average and 47 RBIs. He had 15 doubles and 12 home runs, including two grand slams against West Virginia and WKU. The infielder recorded 19 multi-hit games and 11 multi-RBI games. He received Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week honors in May after batting 9-for-18 with three home runs and 11 RBIs against WVU and Middle Tennessee.
"What an honor for Aaron, Tyler and the program to be recognized by such a great organization," Coach Jeff Waggoner said. "They played a huge role in our success this year, and these two deserve this recognition."
Bossi and Ratliff are the first ABCA All-Region selections for the Thundering Herd since outfielder Nate Lape and infielder Victor Gomez in 2008.
Marshall set a program-record in wins this season with 34, finishing a half game out of first place in Conference USA. The Herd was in the top 5 of 17 different offensive categories in Conference USA play this past season. Marshall was first in hits (315), RBI (189), home runs (36), doubles (69), total bases (504) and stolen bases (50).
ABCA/Rawlings All-Region first-team selections are nominated for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors. ABCA/Rawlings All-Americans will be announced on Saturday, June 18.
