Lopez-Mendez scores goal for Herd
EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Marshall men's soccer team lost at Evansville, 2-1, Wednesday night. Marshall's record falls to 5-5-0 and Evansville improves to 6-3-1.
The Herd put on the pressure early in the first half. Freshman Paul Whitener put a shot on goal just 40 seconds in that needed a save by Evansville keeper Frederik Reimer. Over the next 17 minutes put up five more shots. The seventh shot of the night for the Herd found the back of the net as junior Brayan Lopez-Mendez struck one past Reimer to get Marshall on the board. Whitener was credited with his team leading third assist of the year.
The Purple Aces evened the game at 1-1 in the 30th minute as Ben Weber scored his second goal of the year. Marshall kept the Evansville keeper busy with three more shots before the half ended.

COACH'S QUOTES
Assistant Coach Thomas Olivier
"I thought we came in prepared nicely tonight and controlled the game well the first 30 minutes. The goal we gave up was a bit against the run of play but that's soccer. We need to keep improving and managing certain moments and chunks of time in each half."
"We knew what we were getting ourselves into with these midweek games the past three weeks. But each game has served its purpose well for us and after tonight we think this game will help up for South Carolina."
"Other than the obvious negative that we lost, we have quite a few positives to take from tonight's outing in terms of dictating play and tempo. We really like where we are as a group heading into October."
