@Herd_Tennis Continues Homestand Against No. 20 Kentucky

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall women's tennis team continues its four-match homestand Wednesday evening when it welcomes the Kentucky Wildcats to the Huntington Tennis Club. First serve is set for 5 p.m.
HAVE YOU HERD?
Marshall is 1-0 this season after defeating Eastern Michigan Sunday, 6-1. The Herd won all three doubles matches and five of the six singles matches, losing one in a third set tiebreaker. Daniela Dankanych and Stephanie Smith recorded their first dual match wins as members of the Herd and teamed up to win a doubles match.
Marshall returns its top five players from last year's team that reached the quarterfinals of the Conference USA tournament. The Herd is led by Derya Turhan, the reigning Conference USA Women's Tennis Player of the Year. Turhan is ranked No. 90 in the country and No. 1 in the Atlantic region. Maddie Silver is ranked No. 94 in the country and No. 9 in the Atlantic region. The Herd has two doubles pairs ranked in the Atlantic region. Turhan and Anna Pomyatinskaya are ranked No. 2 in the region and Smith and Rachael Morales are ranked No. 5 in the region.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
Kentucky enters the season ranked No. 20 in the nation after posting an 18-10 record and reaching the second round of the NCAA Tournament a year ago. The Wildcats finished the 2016 season ranked No. 24 in the country.
Kentucky returns six players from last year's team that reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Wildcats are led by Aldila Sutjiadi, who is ranked No. 12 in the country, and AkvilÃ"- ParažinskaitÃ"-, who is ranked No. 74 in the country. Sutjiadi and Mami Adachi are the No. 1 ranked doubles pair in the country and ParažinskaitÃ"- and Emily Fanning are the No. 57 ranked doubles pair in the country. The Wildcats have three of the top 20 singles players in the Ohio Valley region and three of the top four doubles pairs in the region.
