Herd Track and Field Heads to Hokie Invitational

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.-The Marshall University track and field team returns to action at the Hokie Invitational in Blacksburg, Va. hosted by Virginia Tech. Marshall athletes begin competing on Friday in a three day meet that began on Thursday.
The Herd is in its second of six consecutive weekends of the indoor season. Last week, the team competed at the Kentucky Indoor Invitational. Sophomore Elena Marchand broke her own school record in the shot put with a toss of 48 ft. 5.5 inches (14.76 meters). On the running side, junior Barkley Castro had the highest individual finish in 11th with her time of 2:16.71 in the 800m run.
The Hokie Invitational will host 13 teams, including ACC schools Duke, NC State, and Virginia Tech. NC State is the highest ranked team at this meet on the women's side, with their national ranking of 16. The Herd will face off with one Conference USA opponent in Charlotte.
Links to the meet schedule, live results, and the start list are at the top of the page. Events for Marshall athletes begin at 5 p.m. Friday with the triple jump and the one mile run.
"We are looking forward to another great weekend of competition at Virginia Tech," head coach Jeff Small said. "With another good week of training under our belt I expect some improved times from our sprinters and some more outstanding marks by our throwers."
